Groceries and Sundries
Super WalMart – between 8th & 10th on 30th Avenue.
Not like your run of the mill American WalMart. In addition to beer, wine and alcohol, it has a fresh fish counter, panaderia (bakery) with DELICIOUS warm tortillas, an olive bar, a mole bar and some wonderful prepared deli foods. Try the chicken! For the most part, if you need it on your vacation, you can get it here. Mega is similar to WalMart but of a higher quality, just a few blocks away on 30th close to San Francisco, another grocery store. Chedraui – is the large grocery store chain native to Mexico and is located at the Plaza de las Americas.
Convenience Stores –
They are in every direction and carry the basics The farmacia on the corner has most things and is conveniently located but can be very slow.
Newspapers
There is a store across from the bus station on 5th that carries USA Today, the International Herald Tribune and our favorite – the Cancun Edition of the Miami Herald.
Everything Else
5th Avenue –
The pedestrian walkway has almost everything you might need or want while staying at Luna Encantada and for souvenirs to take home – jewelry, pottery, tequila, clothing, etc. There are stores carrying familiar items from Mexico as well as those offering items that are unique. Take time to wander around – it’s a great way to spend a day or an afternoon or a week.
Calle Corazon –
This diagonal street shoots off of 5th Avenue and houses some of the best shopping in Playa.
Ide –
Unique and beautiful individually designed jewelry made from native Mexican silver and stones. Located on 5th Avenue between 10th and 12th just across from 100% Natural.
Sam’s Club –
You may want to take a taxi to Sam’s and load up on groceries if you’re staying for a while. The roast chicken is unbelievably marvelous – makes a great dinner with tortillas, salsa, guacamole and cervezas!
