Playa del Carmen enjoys a near perfect year-round sub-tropical climate with an average temperature of 80 degrees with a humidity level of about 90 percent. While our weather is fairly consistent - remember it is weather and is can be unpredicatable! Any time of year is a great time to visit and you will have great days to spend on the Caribbean and the ocean is always swimmable. Even in a light raing, you will enjoy our big blue sea.
February to May
Spring is, of course, the high season and a beautiful time of year in Playa, with very little rainfall and flowers blooming everywhere. The ocean is calmer and warmer and temperatures rise. Nights are pleasant and comfortable - you might possibly need a very light sweater.
June to August
The summer in Playa is hot and that is why you should stay on the beach where a nice breeze will always provide some relief. The sea is the calmest during the summer months and may be at it's most beautiful. The water is so warm you can stay in for hours. Lots of blue skies with occasional afternoon showers and short but wicked thunderstorms. Nights are still very warm. Wear cotton clothing, swimsuits and a hat and sunglasses.
September and October
While September and October is the time for tropical storms and hurricanes, that doesn't mean there will definitely be one on any given day, week or year. You will likely have a bit of rain and wind, but it can also be a great time to visit with less tourism and a slower pace (believe it or not). It's still warm.
November to January
November, December and January are the "coolest" months in Playa -- it's comfortably warm and a great time to get out of the north. There might be some rain, but not on a daily basis. This time of year nights can be chilly and you might want a sweater at night but the sun is still powerful and the ocean is still warm.
