Eco Parks

Xel Ha Explore this theme park and enjoy a lazy float down the river on a bright pink inner tube and other  water activities like diving, rope swings, snorkeling in creeks, lagoons, natural wells and ancient caves.  Natural aquarium. We like the all inclusive fee and the early close after a long day of fun in the sun.

Xcaret
When the days get really hot, I crave a long float down the river at Xcaret - you don a bright pink life jacket (really fun by itself!) and optional flippers and enter into a seriously clean and cool river (my brother and I compared it to our beloved Smith River in very northern California) and choose whether you want all underground or just a few underground experiences - I like the latter!  There are lots of things to do including a serenity path, fascinating displays on Xcaret's contribution to clean water,  great gift shops, good food, all water activities, birds, dolphins, and a really good night-time show about Mayan/Mexican history with music and lots of displays of athleticism.  Expensive but well executed and well worth the time and money.

Xplor
--  This is tops on my daughter's list for the next place to go - the girl loves adrenalin!! The latest offering from the same folks who've brought Xcaret and Xel Ha is Xplor - the place to go for the more adventurous.  Ziplines galore!
Friends have given this good marks - you can drive amphibious vehicles all over the place.

Additionally, the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve is home to 23 different archaeological sites of pre-Columbian culture.

Hidden Worlds - Hidden World's has a zipline into a cenote!!  We've not yet gone to Hidden Worlds but my amazing blogger Sally and her family loved it.  Here's the words directly from HW -- " The Hidden Worlds team has worked hard to provide an experience of the Riviera Maya's cenotes and surrounding flora and fauna that is safe, accessible and faithful to nature's original design; No paved roads, "simulated" caves or heavy commercialization. We do have a small and friendly jungle cafe serving delicious home-cooked lunches and a local crafts boutique operated by and for the local populace (check it out - their prices are really good!) but that's about the closest thing you'll find to anything commercial here."  On their busist days just about 200 people visit so it sounds like a great way to cool off, enjoy cenotes and avoid the crowds.
