Snorkeling and Scuba diving abound all over the Caribbean and Playa is no exception!
While experienced divers head to Cozumel for world class diving, there is a great deal of stuff to see under the sea in Playa del Carmen.
The geologic wonder of the Mayan Riviera, the cenote, is an amazing underwater discovery of stalagmites and stalagtites. There are numerous reefs that provide excellent viewing and all you have to do is either walk out into the water or find a good dive center to take you out either snorkeling or scuba diving.
There are almost too many to recount - but here are our faves -- Geofish - located right next to El Faro. Abyss, Dive Mike, TankHa, DiveMexico, Alberto's Scuba and Go Cenotes.
The only misfortune we've ever had was a catamaran that sank - made for a good story but a long walk back to the vacation rental after the rescue. What did we learn? Wear a good lifevest and get suspicious if the captain is pouring water out of the catamaran before you get into the water.
